A carrier owns the trucks and employs the crew that moves you; a broker sells your move to whichever carrier takes it. Both are legal - but only one is accountable to you on moving day.
How to tell who you're talking to
Look up the company's US DOT number on the FMCSA SAFER database - it plainly says 'Carrier' or 'Broker.' Ours is US DOT 282-7588, MC 944141. If a website hides its DOT number, that's your answer.
